Assessment Details
Four units of assessment: 3 coursework and one exam.
Year 1: Coursework and exam unit.
Year 2: Two coursework units.
To be successful, students will need to be able to:
- Be methodical and thoughtful in planning and designing digital products
- Use different tools and techniques in different hardware and software technologies to create solutions to manage and communicate data and information by following the design process
- Explain legal, ethical and moral considerations when using technology to gather, store and present information
- Present information in a range of creative ways.
Additional Equipment Recommended
- Access to a computer with Gimp, InkScape, Audacity and GDevelop 5 installed
What can I do to support my child at home?
- Ensure your child has access to a computer with Google Chrome installed, along with InkScape and Gimp and GDevelop 5 installed
- Share your experiences with creative products, adverts, games, films that you have enjoyed, to help your child understand what makes good designs and memorable products
- Ask your child to explain how they intend to develop their ideas for their set assignment
- Discuss with your child how the creative industries impact society and the importance of having good IT & creative skills
- Encourage your child to engage with GDevelop video tutorials and help guides to develop their skills in game design and problem-solving
- Ensure your child is aware of how technology has evolved since your childhood so they have an appreciation of how technology has advanced and a realisation of where it may go in the future (especially in relation to businesses and the real world)
- Encourage your child to teach you ways of using tools for creating simple games. Play and test the games with them
