Skills to prepare students for EDEXCEL Music in three areas:
- Unit 1: Performance 30% (Centre Assessed)
- Unit 2: Composing 30% (Centre Assessed)
- Unit 3 : Appraising 40% (Exam)
Assessment Details
Year 9 Music acts as a bridging year, enabling students to develop their practical performance skills and knowledge of the elements of music acquired in Year 7 and 8 to prepare them for the study of GCSE Music in Years 10 and 11, should they wish to do so. Students will increase their performance confidence, use instruments and Music ICT to further their composition skills and use the Anthology of Music to develop appraisal skills in a wider range of musical styles and traditions. Students experience all the skills needed for the GCSE Course.

The Edexcel GCSE (9-1) Music qualification has been designed to give all students the opportunity to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills of music performing, appraising and composing, whatever their previous experience.
To be successful, students will need to be able to:
- Perform 1 solo piece and 1 ensemble piece totalling a minimum of 4 minutes
- Compose 2 compositions: 1 to a set brief and 1 free composition totalling a minimum of 3 minutes
- Appraise 4 Areas of Study with 2 set works in each
