PSHCE

Intent

At The Cottesloe School we have a strong desire to recognise and respond to the needs of our students and educate them to become fulfilled, successful and safe members of society. The PSHCE (Personal, social, health and citizen, economic) curriculum is designed with this ethos at the very heart of it.  Each year students are invited to input their thoughts into the curriculum structure, along with the use of CHIMAT (Child and maternal health data and intelligence) data from local health authorities, guidance from the Thames Valley Police newsletter for schools, and the statutory requirements for both PSHCE and RSE (Relationships and sex education).  All of this aids us to write a bespoke and evolving curriculum that suits the educational needs of our students at that specific time.

Ethos

  • Individualised support: We believe in providing tailored guidance to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Holistic development: We recognise the importance of balancing academic achievement with personal and social well-being.
  • Lifelong learning: We promote the idea that learning is a continuous process that extends beyond formal education.

Careers in PSHCE

Careers education is integrated throughout the PSHCE curriculum, with specific topics and activities designed to develop career-related skills and knowledge. Some key areas include:

  • Self-awareness and identity: Exploring personal values, interests, and strengths.
  • Learning and work: Understanding the world of work, different career paths, and educational opportunities.
  • Financial capability: Developing financial literacy skills, including budgeting, saving, and borrowing.
  • Healthy lifestyles: Promoting physical and mental well-being, which are essential for success in work and life.
  • Relationships: Building positive relationships with others, which is crucial for effective teamwork and collaboration.

By embedding careers education within our PSHCE curriculum, we aim to empower our students to make informed choices, achieve their goals, and lead fulfilling lives.
