10th March | Head of School Letter

The weather at the weekend was lovely.

I hope you managed to enjoy some time outdoors in the sunshine! This week, I want to extend a special welcome to those families who received confirmation of their child's place at The Cottesloe School for September 2025 on National Offer Day on 3rd March. We are thrilled to welcome you to our school community and eagerly anticipate beginning this exciting partnership with you and your child.

Last week was another busy week for The Cottesloe School - if you don’t regularly follow us on Social Media, take a look as lots has been happening. Alongside the usual timetabled lessons, we are now in the middle of another exciting Science Week investigation, led by Mrs Moore, our fabulous Science teachers and colleagues from across the school. Year 10 GCSE Drama students had an inspiring day out at the Buckingham Old Gaol, Year 9 and Year 12 visited the Bucks Skills Show in Aylesbury, Year 13 completed their mock exams, Year 11 GCSE Drama students performed their devised pieces to the visiting examiner (they had smiles on their faces as I saw them at the end of the day) and we wished our musicians every success in performing at the Milton Keynes Festival of Arts this weekend. Thanks goes to all the teachers and support staff who work tirelessly to plan and deliver all of these opportunities to enrich the learning experience of our students.

Black Trainers

A polite reminder that trainers of any colour, including black ones that look similar to formal black school shoes, are not part of our uniform and should not be worn. To alleviate peer pressure and minimise unreasonable financial demands on families, we maintain a uniform policy that does not include branded trainers. The trainers that some students are choosing to wear are very expensive, costing upwards of £100.  Thank you for supporting the policy by ensuring your child does not attend school wearing trainers. Our uniform expectations and uniform policy are here: https://www.cottesloe.bucks.sch.uk/parents/uniform-and-equipment

Repair Cafe

The Repair Cafe comes to The Cottesloe School!

On Saturday 15th March from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, the Ivinghoe & Pitstone Repair Cafe comes to The Cottesloe School. Ever wondered what a Repair Cafe is? It's a fantastic community initiative dedicated to fixing broken items and reducing waste. Instead of throwing things away, bring them along and the skilled volunteers will help you repair them. Did you know the UK discards millions of tonnes of electrical goods and textiles annually? That's equivalent to mountains of waste! Repair Cafes offer a practical solution by promoting repair and reuse. Come along and learn how to fix your items, meet friendly people, and contribute to a more sustainable future. Together, we can make a difference! Swing by and meet the Ivinghoe and Pitstone Team if you want to fix your broken belongings, seek advice on DIY repairs, or just lend a hand in helping the environment. https://www.ivinghoepitstonerepaircafe.co.uk/

Cottesloe Crime Chronicles

Assembly Theme | Science Week

British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths that will take place between 7-16 March 2025. Assemblies this week will be led by the Science team, focussing on the theme this year of ‘change and adapt’. Science thrives on change and adaptation. From evolving cities and nature's survival tactics to the technological leap from rotary phones to smartphones, the internet and Artificial Intelligence, adaptation is key. We must also adapt our behaviours to tackle climate change. Even perceptions of who can be a scientist are changing; attitudes to STEM and the people who do it have changed and adapted. We need to keep adapting our thinking until we can no longer picture a ‘stereotypical scientist’ – anyone can be a scientist. While change is often positive, like developing better vaccines, it can also be challenging, as with adapting to viruses. Ultimately, understanding change and adaptation is crucial for both our world and scientific progress.

Students this week will be trying to solve the mysterious Cottesloe Crime Chronicles. Years 7 to 10 dove headfirst into forensic science. Here is our in-house News Broadcaster, Year 13 Daniel Thurston
