Online Safety - Stay Safe Online

What is Online Safety?

In today's digital age, it's essential for students and parents to understand the importance of online safety. The internet offers countless opportunities for learning, socialising, and entertainment, but it also comes with potential risks.

Understanding Online Risks

  • Cyberbullying: The harmful effects of cyberbullying and how to report it.
  • Phishing: The tactics used by phishers and how to identify and avoid phishing attempts.
  • Inappropriate Content: The dangers of encountering inappropriate content online and how to use parental controls or safe search settings.
  • Privacy Concerns: The importance of protecting personal information online and how to adjust privacy settings on social media and other platforms.

Resources for Parents

Mrs West, our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, is our Online Safety Champion.  Each year in the autumn term, Mrs West holds an Online Safety evening that all parents are invited to.

If you need any advice or support around keeping your children safe online, feel free to get in touch with Mrs West via the office@cottesloe.bucks.sch.uk

The UK government provides a comprehensive online safety resource called the UK Safer Internet Centre. It offers advice, support, and information on a wide range of online safety topics. You can find it at:

The National Crime Agency (NCA) works with child protection partners, including the police, across the UK and overseas to protect children and young people from online child sexual abuse.

CEOP Education

The CEOP Education team is a part of the National Crime Agency and we run an education programme which provides training, resources and information for children and young people aged 4 - 18, their families and professionals who work with them.

CEOP Safety Centre

The National Crime Agency also runs the CEOP Safety Centre, a reporting service for children and young people.

The CEOP Safety Centre helps children and young people who are being sexually abused or are worried that someone they’ve met is trying to abuse them online.

If you’ve met someone online, and they are putting you under pressure to have sex or making you feel uncomfortable, you should report to CEOP www.ceop.police.uk/safety-centre.
