Art KS4 | Year 10

Examination Board | AQA

Specification Code | 8202/C (Portfolio)

Subject Content

Component 1 - The portfolio is worth 60% of GCSE

Development of the Portfolio evidence coverage of all four assessment objectives. The portfolio will include a sustained project evidencing the journey from initial engagement to the realisation of intentions and a selection of further work undertaken during the student’s course of study.

The content of the portfolio will be determined by the Art Department and is likely to change from year to year in response to current events, exhibitions and opportunities.

Typically, we cover themes such as Natural Form, Identity, Pop Art and Landscape.

The portfolio must include both:

  • A sustained project developed in response to a subject, theme, task or brief evidence of the journey from initial engagement with an idea(s) to the realisation of intentions. This will give students the opportunity to demonstrate, through an extended creative response, their ability to draw together different areas of knowledge, skills and/or understanding across their course of study.
  • A selection of further work resulting from activities such as trials and experiments; skills-based workshops; mini and/or foundation projects; responses to gallery, museum or site visits; independent study and evidence of the student’s specific role in any group work undertaken.

KS4 Art Kit and Sketchbooks

What can I do to support my child at home?

Be interested in what your child has been learning and doing in Art. Ask to see their sketchbook , and engage with them by getting them to discuss art projects with you. Encourage them to experiment with their art media and to review and refine their work as they progress. Encourage them to read about art and use a library for research. Visits to museums and galleries are encouraged and often, upon seeing 'real' art, your child will be enthused and filled with new ideas. Encourage your child to complete homework and to attend any after-school help sessions.
